Model / Actress Cara Delevingne is an ‘Independent Spirit’ for WSJ.

Cara Delevingne: bonafide social media maven, supermodel, actress, and probably one of the coolest chicks in the industry -covers the WSJ Magazine’s June 2015 issue. Looking chic & versatile as ever, she posed for Daniel Jackson | styled by Alastair McKimm. Cara talks difficulties in the modeling world, acting & more in the feature.

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.45.49 AM

Cara is set to star in the upcoming film Paper Towns based on the book by John Green (who also wrote The Fault in Our Stars). Delevingne is one of the biggest models in the world but her passion lies with acting.

She says, “I basically gave up on acting, because trying to get an agent was impossible. ‘Everyone said, “You’re just a model”.

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.35.13 AM

Green said, “Cara Delevingne’s audition blew everyone away (including me!) and she understands Margo profoundly. I am so excited!”

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.45.40 AM

The British babe is the face of huge campaigns from CHANEL, DKNY, Burberry, YSL, to covering VOGUE & much more… the list goes on & on. “I ended up feeling a bit empty. Fashion is about what’s on the outside, and that’s it. There’s no searching, it’s just creating pretty things.”

Adding, “It’s horrible living in a world where I’ll get a call from someone saying, So-and-so says you were partying a lot and you were looking this way and you need to lose weight. It makes me so angry. If you don’t want to hire me, don’t hire me.”

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.45.29 AM

Although, she does credit the benefits of social media because it gives her platform to showcase her kick-a** personality, “I wouldn’t have done as well if I hadn’t had that. Not at all,” she says. “In the ’90s, I wouldn’t have been a supermodel.” Cara’s career is incredible & from modeling, she was able to dip into acting.

Chanel's campaign by Karl Lagerfeld.

Chanel’s campaign by Karl Lagerfeld.

She also talks what she was like as child, “I was a terrifying child. I looked like [horror movie doll] Chucky with bleach-blonde hair. I had night terrors, and I would go around the house turning on all the lights and screaming like people were being murdered.’”

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.47.16 AM

Now, Cara has found a way to balance it all, “I used to be in a constant state of panic and anxiety and have far too many voices in my head. I suddenly realized I’m peaceful inside, and I’ve never had that. Even when I was growing up.”

Eugenie Bouchard: Tennis Star & Model.

Eugenie is the No. 7–ranked female tennis player & last year she simultaneously landed a modeling contract with IMG/WME. The Canadian-native (who just incredibly beat the world’s number one tennis player Serena Williams), covers FLARE Magazine for a total bohemian dream editorial. Bouchard is fierce on & off the court.

Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 4.06.24 PM

It’s all Coachella vibes with Genie who wears pieces by Marc Jacobs & GUCCI in the desert | photographed by Nino Munoz. The 21 year old babe talks tennis, childhood & more.

Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 4.05.50 PM

On the comparisons to Maria Sharapova: “I’m tired of it. When I was ranked 100 and it was my first year on the tour, it was a compliment. I mean, it’s still a compliment. She’s a great champion, but I’m my own person. I just want to be Genie and no one else.”

Eugenie on the ‘twirl’ sitch:  “I didn’t think it was sexist at all. It was maybe a bit odd, but I’m a girl and I do care about what I look like, and I do care about my outfit. We are females, and we can play the sport and be tough on the court but have a girly side and care about fashion and all these things. I think it’s great that we can be more than just tennis players.”

Although, she’s headed straight for supermodel status, Genie, isn’t necessarily heading down the ‘sexy’ shoot rode as Anna Kournikova did, —“One time I did this shoot in England, and I had strawberries in my hand. I was wearing a white dress, and then the photographer was like, ‘Take a bite out of the strawberry.’ I didn’t even think about it and I did it, and my agent was like, ‘No. Delete that. That’s not going anywhere.’”

Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 4.04.53 PM

Bouchard is a ferocious perfectionist (as FLARE puts it), she says,  “I’m very hard on myself. Sometimes too hard on myself. When I lost in the Wimbledon finals, I was so sad, I cried. I had the runner-up trophy! It’s still a great accomplishment, but I was so mad. Everyone told me, ‘Genie, you had a great two weeks. Come on.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, but I didn’t win the title. I don’t deserve any of this.’ My goal is to always win the title.”

On growing up:  “I did not have a normal life. I’d be training when my sister would be at birthday parties and sleepovers. I finished high school by correspondence, basically working two full-time jobs. The last years were very, very tough. But I was willing to do that. It’s all about sacrifice.”

Screen Shot 2015-05-05 at 4.06.11 PM

On self-confidence: “I’ve always had this inner confidence, this inner belief. Any successful run I have is never a surprise, because I put in 10 years of hard work.”

We love this kick-a** tennis star/model – can’t wait to see her fierceness on & off the court! Catch the full interview here on Flare.

Jonesin’ for Joan.

Puerto Rican beauty & instagirl Joan Smalls is one of the biggest supermodels in the world right now. She’s the face of Estée Lauder, Givenchy’s main muse, a VS Angel, kicks it with Beyonce, starred n VOGUE’s coveted September issue (alongside Karlie Kloss & Cara Delevingne) and is runway royalty. As LUCKY Magazine puts it she’s ‘a force to be reckoned with’.

joan-smalls-lucky-magazine-may-2015-photos01

Smalls is the mags latest cover star and talks all things modeling – we love her candidness, and homegirl truly WORKED to get where she is now. From starting off at modeling contests in malls to getting her degree & coming to NYC, she’s got some seriously good advice & experience for aspiring models.

Creative director of Givenchy, Riccardo Tisci, really put Joan on the fashion map by featuring her in a spring haute couture show, she says, “I had been shooting a lot of catalogs up until then. Riccardo bleached my eyebrows and I suddenly became this androgynous, versatile model. It kick-started my career for sure.”

joan-smalls-lucky-magazine-may-2015-photos02

Supermodel, dancer & now designer (since her collaboration with True Religion), LUCKY asked her ‘what she thinks of her emerging status as a powerhouse hyphenate,’ she says, “I feel like a good amount of women have used modeling as a platform. People like Gisele and Cindy. And I think that’s really cool, not only for models but for women. It shows that you can have a voice and a say. You can have a brand and be your own boss. It’s empowering.”

The 26 year old also credits E! True Hollywood Story, which showcased catwalk queens from Naomi Campbell, to Kate Moss and Christie Brinkley. “I’d just watch the show and be glued to the screen,. I couldn’t even imagine—these were women who got to travel the world. It just seemed so alluring.” Adding, “I was so awkward-looking—tall, super skinny, gangly. The boys at school made fun of me,” she says. “But I’d see those girls on TV and I’d think, Oh, they have my same body type.”

Screen Shot 2015-04-23 at 10.54.17 AM

At 13 years old Joan knew she wanted to model, so Smalls began signing up for modeling competitions at shopping malls, which involved A LOT of traveling, fortunately she was able to make it a family affair,  “I lost every single time. We had a gray minivan, and one time it broke down during a long drive home, and I remember thinking, Is this even worth it? But I loved it. And I had my family’s blessing, which was cool. My parents were into it. They were like, ‘Why not? It’s a fun extracurricular activity, and she has good grades.’ Their support was crucial, because I didn’t have a license to get myself places.”

Screen Shot 2015-04-23 at 11.18.19 AM

On NYC, the fashion / modeling capital of the world:  “New York was quite a shock, but I was so eager and hungry. I’d take the bus to get on the subway to make it to castings.”

On rejections: “You’re competing with 40, 100, 200 other girls. You go to a call, see the casting list and you’re number 202. And you know there are just a couple of open spots.”

Screen Shot 2015-04-23 at 11.21.53 AM

Some days she’d attend as many as 15 calls. “I would say to myself, I just want to get to a place in my career where I don’t have to do castings, because it was grueling. There are so many places to be at once, you’re always running late and then having to wait your turn. Now I’ll sometimes see models rushing around the city, and I totally feel what they’re going through.”

We’ve always loved following Joan Smalls’ modeling journey & can’t wait to continue watching her reign over the industry.

Screen Shot 2015-04-14 at 9.46.29 PM

Catwalk queen to coding. This is a ModelPrenuer on a whole ‘nother level. Supermodel Karlie Kloss is beyond beauty & brains, from covering VOGUE to rocking the runway, the upcoming NYU Gallatin grad is now launching ‘Kode With Karlie which gives young girls the opportunity to win a coding scholarship!

“Participants will score free tuition to Flatiron Pre-College Academy’s Introduction to Software Engineering course — a two-week, full-time course where they’ll learn how to create an app. Ten of the spots will be at the NYC campus, and the other ten will be at different locations around the country.” (Buzzfeed). We’re pretty sure Kloss is the definition of ‘kick-a** chick’.

So girls, if you’re in high school (between 13-18 years old) get ready to submit your 60-second-long video telling the VS model why YOU want to learn to code in the same summer course as she did. APPLY HERE!

The 22 year old said , “I’m so excited to partner with the Flatiron School to launch the Kode With Karlie scholarship and give twenty young women a chance to spend two weeks with other coding students learning and having fun this summer! If one girl leaves the course inspired to keep learning code, I’ll be happy!”

“It doesn’t matter if you’re a fashion model or high school student, understanding code is so important because it’s the language that runs our world! Young women are shaping the world we live in and code is a tool for us to continue to have a big voice and say in our future,” Kloss added.

We love her passion for computer programming and Z Management is pretty passion about it too – that’s why WE created an APP for models & actors to kick-start their career. Start by creating your comp card in seconds (which is like your business card in the industry) share it | Get discovered. You can catch in the iTunes / Google Play store!

Model News: Gisele Rocks off the Runway.

Well, the time has finally come. Iconic supermodel, Gisele Bundchen, hung up her angel wings a few years back … and now, she’s walking off the runway. Before you go all cray – Gisele is NOT quitting modeling, but she will be kickin’ it OFF the catwalk.

Bundchen’s final walk will be during Sao Paulo Fashion Week.

The Brazilian beauty said in the Folha de Sao Paulo newspaper that she’s quitting after her body “asked her to stop.” She said, “Automatically my body tells me if what I do is worth it, and it asked to stop. I respect my body, it’s a privilege to be able to stop.”

She emphasized that she’s not retiring her modeling career & she’ll still continue to work off the runway, from campaigns to covers. Tom Brady’s wife is also looking to spend more time at home with her family.

The face of H&M said,  “I don’t see how to continue (modeling on the catwalk) … and stopping will leave room for other projects I have for myself.”

Gisele has been the world’s highest-earning model (according to Forbes) for the last eight years, with $47 million in earnings just last year.

As of recently she’s covered multiple VOGUE issues, is the face of Sonia Rykiel, H&M, Pantene & of course the coveted CHANEL No. 5 ads.

The longevity of Gisele’s modeling career is seriously ground breaking & it doesn’t look like she’s stopping (hopefully) anytime soon … although we’ll miss her strutting those killer legs on the catwalk, we can’t wait to see her upcoming cover issues, ad campaigns & more.

Interestingly enough, the top model made her career on the catwalk.

In 1997 Bündchen traveled to London, she auditioned for 42 shows and ended up getting her big break when she was “chosen for her ability to walk in towering heels—on a slippery runway—for Alexander McQueen’s spring 1998 “rain” ready-to-wear show” (Wikipedia).

Screen Shot 2015-04-12 at 10.38.13 PM

The former Victoria’s Secret angel said in the VOGUE UK March ’15 issue,  “I’m a model as a job, I’m Gisele, the daughter of Valdir and Vania, I’m a woman, I am a model. When I go home and shut the door, that’s it. If I want to expose something, it should be my choice.”

ModelPreneur: Anja Rubik on Why Modeling is a Feminist Job.

Rubik is noted as one of Karl Lagerfeld’s favorite models. Polish beauty & entrepreneur Anja Rubik has covered multiple international VOGUE covers, has been the face of Givenchy, Chloe, Chanel, DKNY, & more, now, the 31 year old is releasing her first fragrance, plus opens up about why modeling is truly, a feminist job. #PREACH.

Screen Shot 2015-04-04 at 3.37.26 PM

Vogue Paris declared Anja as one of the top 30 models of the 2000s. Since May 2010, she’s ranked 3rd on the Top 50 Models Women list (right behind Natasha Poly & Lara Stone). Rubik’s also ranked as one of the highest earning top fashion models in the industry, by models.com’s Top 25 Money Girls list. In 2012, the supermodel was officially ranked as an ICON.

On starting off: “I started modeling many years ago, and since then, I’ve grown as a person and as a woman. When I first started, sports and exercising were not in my routine. But for my job, my body is my instrument of work. I realized I had to do sports. It really impacts the way you feel psychologically and the muscles in the skin have to look right. You cannot reach that through any diet, just exercise.”

On modeling as feministic: “ I consider modeling to be a feminist job. It’s an incredible job; it’s one of the ones where women get paid more than men. If you’re good at your job, you get to be very creative and it opens very many doors, like I did with mymagazine, 25, and perfumes. You get quite a bit of a following and an impact on young women and girls. You can do something very positive with that. Nowadays, it’s not as glamorous as people think. But it can open your mind to many, many things.”

Screen Shot 2015-04-04 at 3.37.59 PM

On girl power: “I’m a big feminist and for female empowerment. I’m very comfortable identifying as one. Nowadays, it is so hard to be a woman. With magazines and TV and social media, it’s all about how to be, how to look, what to say, and it’s so easy to lose yourself. I thought it would be incredible to inspire young women to find their own originality and thoughts, for them to create their own world and go back to their roots.

The inspiration behind her new fragrance: “The name of the fragrance, Original, comes from that and because I wanted to create something of my own. The scent is lily-inspired because I love lilies, and the black-and-white packaging is inspired by Robert Mapplethorpe’s photography. Lilies are a flower that is very minimalist and fragile, but at the same time is a symbol of erotica. As women, we are strong and very sensual and erotic, even at times when we need to be quite powerful. It’s a touch of quiet strength.”

Screen Shot 2015-04-04 at 3.47.19 PM

Her go-to nutrition habits: “I drink a lot of water. And first of all, I don’t believe in any diets. Diets are tortuous; the most important thing in life is balance. The moment we forbid ourselves is when we really crave it. I’m actually a vegetarian, so I don’t eat meat or fish. I eat a lot of vegetables and fruit. I also love any kind of smoothies. There is one that is great for the skin with kale, almond milk, coconut water, and dates. Or sometimes I do pear, banana, coconut oil, and water. That’s really delicious and a nice way to start the day.”

We absolutely love what Anja Rubik has to say about modeling & it’s so true. Want to kick-start your modeling career? Social Supermodels.

It’s no surprise the newest generation of supermodels have taken the social stratosphere to the next level  – from Kendall Jenner (who’s probably the most followed model in existence), to Cara Delevingne & of course, Gigi Hadid. Even VOGUE jumped on board calling them the Instagirls on their coveted September issue which featured Joan Smalls, Karlie Kloss, Cara, Arizona Muse, Edie Campbell, Imaan Hammam, Fei Fei Sun, Vanessa Axente, & Andreea Diaconu.

Screen Shot 2015-03-30 at 8.27.12 PM

AdWeek has dubbed them the ‘Millennial Models’. But, that’s no news to us at Z Management– we’ve seen this push for promotion via social media platforms for a while, especially in the fashion industry. Which is why we launched our APP M3Beauty for professional & aspiring models, giving girls around the globe the tool to create their comp card in seconds. Whether it’s snaping a selfie or selecting a pic, you can promote yourself & share your card on instagram, twitter, tumblr, facebook, & more. That’s some next level promo right there babeZ. Download M3 Beauty in the iTunes / Google Play store.

Before Gigi landed her major modeling contracts with Tom Ford, Victoria’s Secret, Maybelline & more, she took to Instagram to tell her followers of her 1st contract – when she was signed with IMG Models, since then it’s been all ‘OMG Gigi!’. She’s reigned the runway at fashion week & covered top mags — now she’s getting futuristic for AdWeek’s latest issue | Photographed by Alexei Hay.

AdWeek points out, “the millennial models have achieved success both in the realm of high fashion and the commercial world—a rarity since the supermodel era of the ’90s.”

Screen Shot 2015-03-30 at 8.26.46 PM

Gigi recently covered Teen Vogue alongside top model, Binx Walton, their editor in chief Amy Astley says, “There are tons of examples of successful working models who don’t have a big Instagram following and aren’t interested in social media but it’s becoming something more and more that the ad clients are looking for—and all the girls know it. The game is definitely changing.”

Screen Shot 2015-03-30 at 8.27.39 PM

Harper’s Bazaar executive editor Laura Brown says of British beauty Delevingne, “Cara’s a gorgeous girl, but her personality and her social media, that’s what made her, whereas I think Karlie’s just the sort of emblem of good health and girlfriendship. They have their own little currencies on social media, and I think that they’ve become, at least to us, the sort of archetype.” She also talks about SM, “If a model happens to come with a few thousand or a few million followers, that’s amazing for brands. Especially if you’re a brand that wants to target a new, younger demographic, you’d have to consider [hiring] those girls in a second.”

Hadid also stuns for VOGUE Spain’s latest issue (catch it on our Tumblr Blog HERE), but she talks about ‘life after modeling’, she says, “What people want to know is, OK, what’s after modeling? And that’s forcing us to think about those things [even earlier]. It’s not just OK anymore to model until you’re 25 and then stop and be a housewife.”

So, what does she have planned? “I’m an entertainer, and I think that I’ll always be in that business,” she adds, “Who knows? I could always be a fact checker on CSI.” (Hadid currently took a leave of absence from The New School in NYC to focus full time on modeling – but she has plans on returning & getting her degree).

Screen Shot 2015-03-30 at 8.27.20 PM

Well, her fellow supermodel BFFs are already proving their careers are not only expanding from modeling but their not ending anytime soon.

Kloss (the latest face of L’Oreal Paris) has “her own line of cookies with New York bakery Momofuku Milk Bar, taken classes at Harvard Business School, learned how to code & participated in a panel on social media at SXSW. Earlier this year, she announced she was ending her run as a Victoria’s Secret Angel so she could attend New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study.” Ummm talk about GiRLBOSS.. or ModelBOSS in this case.

Cara, who’s Chanel’s main homegirl, has started dipping into acting, she’s set to star in multiple films, including the much anticipated ‘Paper Towns’.
