The ‘sparkle effects’ were done by makeup artist Kate Lee, she said,  “I bought six pounds of gold and silver glitter in a shop in Covent Garden and shipped it back to L.A. probably nine years ago. I was waiting for the right moment to use it. When VIOLET GREY gave me creative input on this story, I knew the time had come.”

Catch some highlights from the interview:

Screen Shot 2015-06-05 at 8.58.03 PM

On defining glamour: “It’s like  a James Bond film. It’s European. It’s international. Glamour is like that. It’s the Hotel du Cap. That’s glamorous. I stayed there when went to Cannes a hundred years ago, and it was the most beautiful hotel in the most beautiful corner of the world. It was outrageously glamorous.”

Screen Shot 2015-06-05 at 8.58.56 PM
Her Makeup Regimen: “Growing up, my mum never wore a lot of makeup, she was very natural.  However, it’s important to take care of yourself and it doesn’t hurt to put on a bit of lipstick. I discovered I was allergic to all these chemicals and we put together a very strict bible of all the products I could use. I actually wear makeup everyday. I use a NARS tinted moisturizer. I love those Fresh lip stains. I wear them religiously. They are terrific in a berry color. I try to put on a hat if I can.”
Screen Shot 2015-06-05 at 8.59.47 PM

On the importance of SPF and oh wait, a mention of her handsome Cuban boo: “In Australia, there is such a high rate of skin cancer that it’s really beaten into us at an early age to be careful about our skin,” she says. “Although, you know, my boyfriend smokes cigarettes and doesn’t drink water and has better skin than anybody that I know! He’s half-Cuban and half-Italian. He’s like, ‘Dios mío! It’s genetic, it doesn’t matter.’ So why am I trying?”

On women and the pressures of image:  “Absolutely! Increasingly! Look at Hillary Clinton. She has to spend time getting her hair and makeup done whereas a male candidate doesn’t have to do that as much. Or at least as much grooming. It really is this very old concept that we are valued for putting ourselves together and presenting ourselves.”

On comedy: “Comedy is hard. Talk about trying to make something look effortless! Better to be scared about the work than to feel as if it is too familiar territory.”

Model / Actress Cara Delevingne is an ‘Independent Spirit’ for WSJ.

Cara Delevingne: bonafide social media maven, supermodel, actress, and probably one of the coolest chicks in the industry -covers the WSJ Magazine’s June 2015 issue. Looking chic & versatile as ever, she posed for Daniel Jackson | styled by Alastair McKimm. Cara talks difficulties in the modeling world, acting & more in the feature.

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.45.49 AM

Cara is set to star in the upcoming film Paper Towns based on the book by John Green (who also wrote The Fault in Our Stars). Delevingne is one of the biggest models in the world but her passion lies with acting.

She says, “I basically gave up on acting, because trying to get an agent was impossible. ‘Everyone said, “You’re just a model”.

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.35.13 AM

Green said, “Cara Delevingne’s audition blew everyone away (including me!) and she understands Margo profoundly. I am so excited!”

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.45.40 AM

The British babe is the face of huge campaigns from CHANEL, DKNY, Burberry, YSL, to covering VOGUE & much more… the list goes on & on. “I ended up feeling a bit empty. Fashion is about what’s on the outside, and that’s it. There’s no searching, it’s just creating pretty things.”

Adding, “It’s horrible living in a world where I’ll get a call from someone saying, So-and-so says you were partying a lot and you were looking this way and you need to lose weight. It makes me so angry. If you don’t want to hire me, don’t hire me.”

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.45.29 AM

Although, she does credit the benefits of social media because it gives her platform to showcase her kick-a** personality, “I wouldn’t have done as well if I hadn’t had that. Not at all,” she says. “In the ’90s, I wouldn’t have been a supermodel.” Cara’s career is incredible & from modeling, she was able to dip into acting.

Chanel's campaign by Karl Lagerfeld.

Chanel’s campaign by Karl Lagerfeld.

She also talks what she was like as child, “I was a terrifying child. I looked like [horror movie doll] Chucky with bleach-blonde hair. I had night terrors, and I would go around the house turning on all the lights and screaming like people were being murdered.’”

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.47.16 AM

Now, Cara has found a way to balance it all, “I used to be in a constant state of panic and anxiety and have far too many voices in my head. I suddenly realized I’m peaceful inside, and I’ve never had that. Even when I was growing up.”

Charlize Theron is a Smoke-Show for W Magazine.

Actress / Muse / J’Adore Dior’s model Charlize Theron is a sultry star for W Magazine’s May ’15 issue. Photographed by Mert & Marcus | styled by Edward Enninful, the South African stunner looks kick-a** in Dior a leather jacket for the cover. From her role in ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ to the upcoming thriller in ‘Dark Places’ (same writer as ‘Gone Girl’, Gillian Flynn), Charlize is making some serious waves.

Screen Shot 2015-04-21 at 11.21.21 PM

She talks motherhood, leaving her ‘characters’ at work, & reflecting for W Mag. When Theron showed up at the Oscar 2013 Awards Ceremony in a couture gown and an almost shaved head of hair, she literally ruled red carpet.  Now, she opens up about chopping off her locks for Mad Max:  “At first, my character was going to be ghostlike and albino. And then I thought it would be stronger to shave my head. I called George [Miller] and told him my plan. He went silent, which I thought was a good sign. So I borrowed some clippers and buzzed it all off.”

Screen Shot 2015-04-21 at 11.22.45 PM

Charlize is the mother of adorable toddler Jackson, she talks about the difficulties of separating work from home life, in particular her dark roles, “I’ve never been a fan of bringing my characters home. Even when I just had my dogs at home, I didn’t feel like it was fair to them: Cocker spaniels don’t deserve Aileen Wuornos [the serial killer Theron played in Monster, for which she won an Academy Award] walking in the door. If anything, I’m more attracted to dark material since becoming a mother. I look at Jackson and I want to fight harder to stop AIDS and tell stories that shed a light on injustice. I feel like he deserves a better world.”

On motherhood: “I do know that choosing to be a mom in my late 30s has been really great for me. It’s given me perspective…I think, like many women, I was judgmental toward women as they aged. Women, in our society, are compartmentalized so that we start to feel like we’re cut flowers and after a while we will wilt. I realize now that’s not the case—we can celebrate every age. That’s my encouragement to 20-year-olds who are terrified of getting older: Don’t have a nervous breakdown and don’t hit the Chardonnay too hard. Getting older is not that bad. [Laughs] Actually, I’m a complete alcoholic, but, please, don’t worry.”

And of course, if she were to give advice to her 20 year old self… “I would say, ‘Calm down.’ I was always in a rush. I felt like time was going to run out. Now that I’m older, I know I’m not missing out on anything. Now, I go home, and that feels really good. When I hit 30, I realized I didn’t have to please everybody. I could actually enjoy life, which is not a bad thing at all.”

Oh and case you have already, you totally need to pick up Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. Just sayin’. Xx

Blake Lively Covers ALLURE | Photographed by Mario Testino.

Actress / Model / Muse / Fashionista: Blake Lively stuns for the May ’15 cover shoot of ALLURE Magazine. The blonde beauty looks chic in a clean &simple white Jil Sander button-up, shot by renowned fashion photographer Mario Testino.

Blake is Testino’s latest muse for his popular Towel Series. The L’Oreal model welcomed her first child with hubby Ryan Reynolds, launched a lifestyle site Preserve, and is starring in the upcoming box office hit The Age of Adaline. She talks Gossip Girl, being happy, filming & more.

TOWEL SERIES 72

TOWEL SERIES 72

We’ve always been obsessed with Serena Van Der Woodsen’s style from GG,  but in all actuality it was a pretty dark storyline (once you got past the exceptional clothing & parties of course), Lively says, “People loved it, but it always felt a little personally compromising — you want to be putting a better message out there. But it’s a weird thing when people feel like they know you really well, and they don’t. I would not be proud to be the person who gave someone the cocaine that made them overdose and then shot someone and slept with someone else’s boyfriend.”

Screen Shot 2015-04-18 at 10.51.47 AM

Life after Gossip Girl: “I wanted to reset. It taps into so many of my own passions, but it also is a business that I can control. If I can be successful at this, I have security for my family and my babies. I’m in a profession, acting, where it’s really for-hire—I offer a service that people hire out. I love it, but it’s not something I can control.”

On ‘The Age of Adaline’: “People are obsessed with beauty and youth and with looking and feeling young forever. But look at a woman who is granted that: She’s trapped, because it’s tragic to be young forever.” A pause. “And also, having a child makes you realize that we pass on for a reason. You think, I have to go, because it makes room for you.”

Screen Shot 2015-04-18 at 10.51.33 AM

On balancing work, family, life & more: “Most of the things I do are all-consuming, but somehow I find a way to do it all. But it’s dangerous to dilute that to a catchphrase. Having it all could be having a happy, healthy family, and you could be a mom who stays at home, and that is the most admirable thing you could do. Or it could be having a profession that you really believe in, and not having a family, and doing what fulfills you. If it’s not a part of a conversation with someone face-to-face, those bites are why women tear each other apart or why the media will tear people apart.”

BadGal RiRi on her Box Office Hit ‘HOME’ for Vanity Fair Italia.

BadGalRiRi is BOSS. Talk about triple threat: model | musician | actress .. oh did we mention a designer & overall bad-a**? RiRi’s starring in the animated film HOME which just knocking out the Box Office with $54 million in the first few days- beating out new movie ‘Get Hard’. She also just sang her new hit single BBHMM (B*tch Better Have My Money) from her album R8 at a killer live performance during the iHeart Radio Music Awards | catch it here on our blog. Now, she’s covering Vanity Fair Italia looking fresh-faced & flawless.

107kvnl

RiRi talks her character Tip in her movie ‘Home’:

On Tip’s love of music & how she found her own voice as a little girl in Barbados: “I love the scene where Tip plays a song to Oh, who’s never heard music in his life and doesn’t understand what’s happening, so he tries to stop himself from dancing. Music is my life forever. When I was little, in Barbados there was only one TV channel: there was the time slot of the newscast, to Beautiful, Sesame Street and documentaries”

On how she relates to her character Tip: “Tip is strong, independent. Not to be discouraged, she knows what she wants and never gives up, without waiting for the help of others. She’s a little cheeky as I was. However sensitive. It sounds strange, but I’m very shy. I can only be spontaneous if I’m fine with those around me.”

Her musical inspiration: “On Sunday, finally, there were music videos on all day. I could stay inside the whole day listening to Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Bob Marley. I enjoyed mimicking their every song. And by doing a lot of imitating I found my voice. I was only a child when I decided I wanted to do singing as a profession, which I remember very clearly. I was eight years old, and my little brother had just been born, and I told myself that I wanted to do music, music gets you places in the world where I have never been.”

On feeling like an outsider: “Oh is an alien, Tip is a human: the music is just one of many things that make them, for background, very different. But gradually they discover a number of similarities. It is the basis of friendship, when one begins to know and you stop judging them. I know what it means to feel, like them, an outsider. The first time it happened to me as a child in Barbados, was when I moved and I ended up in a school where I knew no one. And then when at sixteen I landed in New York, where I was know as “the girl who is from the island.’”

Rihanna has a close relationship with her mom, and overall family, ummm have you seen the pics of baby Majesty?? Her character Tip is close to her mom as well, she says, “I recognize a lot in the relationship between Tip and her mother. My mom is a force of nature. I know that everyone says: I have the best mother in the world. But I’m really convinced. She has always filled me with affection and has never tried, nor has judged my friends. Her presence reassures me. I’m glad it was Jennifer Lopez who got to be the voice of my character’s mother. When she speaks, I feel the same warmth and the same security that my own mother gives me.”

Meaning of ‘Home’ in the film vs what ‘Home’ means to Ri: “Home, in the film, is all about reuniting with the people you love. For me, they are always around, the lifeline, when I return in the evening to my hotel room, is the TV: news, reality shows, movies, documentaries, cartoons. I learned to call any place where I feel safe as home. But there is no place like Barbados. My beaches, my family, my food, my music. Home, for me, it’s right there.”

Rihanna recently was featured on TWO covers of Harpers Bazaar China.

Olivia Wilde & her Dance/Fitness routine for SHAPE.

Spring is here (well it doesn’t feel like it in NYC quite yet …) but summer is just around the corner & we’re all about those crop tops. So, we’re taking tips from new mom/model/actress Olivia Wilde and her fitness / dance routine. You’ll love breaking it down to these beats & moves (catch the step by step after the interview below).

Screen Shot 2015-03-29 at 7.10.52 PM

The face of Revlon covers & poses in SHAPE Magazine’s latest issue – she looks fab plus talks about ‘bouncing back’ after a baby.

Wilde points out how there’s so much attention paid to new Hollywood mom’s and their post-baby bod’ (although we do have to say she looks incredible after giving birth less than a year ago). She says, “I am not in perfect shape. In fact, I’m softer than I’ve ever been, including that unfortunate semester in high school when I simultaneously discovered Krispy Kreme and pot.” LOL! We always love her candidness.

Adding, “The photos of me in this magazine have been generously constructed to show my best angles, and I assure you, good lighting has been warmly embraced. The truth is, I’m a mother, and I look like one.”

On getting back in the workout groove: “If I wasn’t at work, I just wanted to stay home and party with my little man—and by ‘party’ I mean, of course, endless rounds of the ‘Itsy Bitsy Spider.’ Also, I like beer. And pizza. And these two ingredients are not found in the purely fictional book I like to call How to Look Like You Never Made a Human: A Guide to Socially Acceptable Motherhood.” We feel ya!

Screen Shot 2015-03-29 at 7.09.33 PM

So, what does Olivia do to keep her rockin’ bod’? Probably the most fun & best form of exercise ever: Dancing.

“It’s understandable that many of us are scarred by childhood ballet, but dance doesn’t have to be scary, and in fact, can be the most fun you’ve ever had sweating your butt off. Which is why I’m a follower of Kristin Sudeikis, the queen of NYC dancercise and creator of 2Fly.” Listen, baby or no baby, getting out of the house to exercise is a serious achievement. If you’re going to haul your behind to a class, it’s not going to be for anyone else; not your partner, nemesis, mother, or tabloid bloggers—just you. And your special relationship with your own damn fat cells. For me, the bottom line (pun intended) is that the workout is fun.”

Screen Shot 2015-03-29 at 7.08.10 PM

Coincidentally, Kristin is Olivia’s fiance’s sister (Jason Sudeikis), the creator of 2Fly says of dancercise, “Dance releases endorphins which interact with serotonin and dopamine, chemicals that have the power to instantly boost your mood.”

The full body fat burner, 2Fly, was inspired by “the early ‘90s Fly Girls (J.Lo’s original claim to fame), and blends fat-melting aerobics with serious attitude that makes you feel, well, pretty damn fly,” (Wilde).

How it Works: Make a playlist with your seven favorite songs. Press play, then do the first move for 1 minute. Then do the second move for 1 minute. Then do the first move again, then the second move, and then the third for 1 minute each. Start over and do the first four moves for 1 minute each. Then the first five. Continue with this cycle of adding a move on each round until you’ve done all seven moves. If you’re really feeling it, repeat the entire thing. Do this routine 3 or 4 times a week on alternate days.

What’s YOUR fav workout babeZ? We’re definitely going to get our groove on with this.

Elisha Cuthbert from ‘The Girl Next Door’ to ‘One Big Happy’.

Former ‘Teenage Dream’ Elisha Cuthbert has grown into a chic, bonafide actress. This Canadian bombshell made her acting debut in 2004 starring in one of our fav chick flicks ‘The Girl Next Store’, becoming every high-school boys’ dream girl. Fast forward (almost a decade), and now she’s staring in the upcoming TV comedy series by Ellen Degeneres, ‘One Big Happy’.

We love this editorial for FASHION magazine – Photographed by Chris Nicholls. For the cover, Elisha rocks a baby blue jacket by Stella McCartney, Alexander Wang top, pants by Lanvin, paired with a Celine bracelet, H&M ear cuff and a Dean Davidson necklace | Styled by George Antonopoulos.

Screen Shot 2015-03-18 at 8.35.05 PM

Elisha looks flawless (seriously dem brows / makeup by Simone Otis) with slicked back, sleek hair by Justin German – she talks about her evolving style, “I can’t believe how fearless I was. Under the age of 25, I didn’t care what I wore. Now I sit in front of the mirror and think, “What lipstick should I wear?” I just have much more knowledge. It can make you insecure.”

Surprisingly, one of our fav films, is HER most ‘awkward film’ of her career lol – “The Girl Next Door took me so far out of my comfort zone. The provocativeness that I had to exude in that film was daring… especially at my age at that time. I was twenty and I barely knew who I was. It was weird. I looked very attractive and the clothes were bringing out this sexy side of me. It was challenging to have to get to a place where I was okay with what I was wearing—especially when I was literally in fishnets and a bra and underwear. It was really tough.

Screen Shot 2015-03-18 at 8.34.54 PM

We’re obsessed with this look — that BCBG Max Azria Veil is everything & all about those Alexander Wang overalls.

On her character Lizzy, in ‘One Big Happy’, based on lesbian comedy writer Liz Feldman:

“I felt I had to do this. Just look at what Ellen went through 18 years ago when she came out on her TV series. Could you imagine how hard that was for her and how groundbreaking that was? To think that nothing has come of it since then until us is insane.”

On Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi as role models:
They are a couple that all married people can look up to. They’re very supportive of one another and they have each other’s backs. When Ellen was busy doing her talk show and couldn’t be with us [on set One Big Happy], Portia stepped in. One could easily not care about the other’s endeavors, but Portia really did.

Ellen Degeneres said of the show during the 2015 Winter TCA Tour, “Yes, there’s a lesbian character, but it’s a really funny show and that’s all I wanted to do, put out really funny material that’s smart and thought-provoking. There’s so much to this show. So I don’t focus on that. I just look at it as a funny show.”

Kerry Washington gets ‘Scandalous’ for Marie Claire.

Actress / Model Kerry Washington stuns for the cover of Marie Claire’s April 2015 issue. Kerry stars in the number one (most addicting) TV Show out there: SCANDAL. I mean, even Rihanna is obsessed with Olivia Pop (as we are). Washington opens up to Marie Claire about her character Ms. Pope, Scandal, family, & growing up.

Screen Shot 2015-03-14 at 9.22.22 PM

Kerry looks gorgeous & puts her modeling skills to good use with this chic editorial | Photographed by Tesh.

The spokeswoman of beauty brand L’Oreal talks growing up & thinking she was not pretty (trust us, we were shocked too): “I didn’t grow up thinking I was pretty; there was always a prettier girl than me. So I learned to be smart and tried to be funny and develop the inside of me, because I felt like that’s what I had.”

On privacy: “Earlier in my career, I was much more super-sharey. There were moments when I wanted to process things that were happening to me more privately, and I didn’t have the space to do it, because once you let people in, they’re in and you don’t get to say, ‘Oh, I want this for myself.’”

Screen Shot 2015-03-14 at 9.22.31 PM

On family: “I just want [daughter Isabelle] to know that she’s heard. Really heard, because I feel like that is what we all really want. When I think about any of the missteps in my life that I’ve made, all of which I’m grateful for, it’s because I just so wanted to be truly seen and heard for who I am and was afraid I wasn’t or wouldn’t be. I see you, I hear you, I’m with you as you are.”

On working with Shonda Rhimes (the creator of Scandal): “I’m very respectful of Shonda’s vision of who Olivia [Pope] is, but she has said that she is informed by the choices I make. If we were waltzing, she’s definitely leading. And she picked the song, and she probably dressed us, but it is a waltz.”

Screen Shot 2015-03-14 at 9.22.13 PM

On Olivia Pope: “I don’t think I consciously say, ‘What would Olivia Pope do?’ but there’s a new thread of belief in my own capacity that I think comes from her. She makes it happen. She figures it out. She fixes it.

On fashion: “I just put myself in a boot camp of figuring it out—and realized that I really loved it. I guess because I came to it later in life, I realized, ‘Oh, going to a fashion show is like going to the opening of Degas at the Met or going to see Swan Lake.’”

Eva Mendes: A Model, Muse & Mother.

Eva Mendes is considered one of the most beautiful women in the industry. I mean seriously those Calvin Klein ads??The World swooned when Ryan Gosling & Eva became an item & as of recently she’s been out of the public eye since the birth of their baby girl, Esmeralda. Now Mendes is back & looking better than ever. The 41 year old babe covers Women’s Health Magazine photographed by Ben Watts — Eva talks motherhood, fitness, nutrition & more.

Screen Shot 2015-03-11 at 3.47.40 PM

We love the ‘all-white’ styling for the editorial spread — definitely some chic Spring fashion inspiration.

On baby Esmeralda: “I’m actually enjoying the sleepless nights because it’s bonding with my little girl…I don’t feel like I’ve really earned the right [to give motherly advice.] I want to respect all the moms out there. They’re going to be like, ‘You know what? You’re a few months in. Just shut up.”

Screen Shot 2015-03-11 at 3.49.26 PM

On her diet:“I haven’t eaten meat in about six years, because I don’t agree with factory farming here,” she says. “This is just what worked for me, it’s important to say, but when I cut that out I immediately felt better. And also, after a year of eliminating it, my skin looked brighter and healthier overall.”

Her Fitness Routine: “I realized a long time ago that I needed to have some kind of routine. I don’t love it, but I’ve made peace with that.” Her fitness routine features running & interval sprints.

On being photographed in public: “I believe there is a public self and a private self. My sisters and my good friends are experiencing that now [with] Facebook and Instagram. When they freak out about a friend of theirs posting a bad picture of them, I’m like, ‘Well, imagine how I feel! Get used to it!’”

On the importance of therapy: “Having [a therapist] who’s totally objective and who points out my patterns— I find that really helpful. And I’m lucky to work with someone who doesn’t just sit there and nod her head, you know? I need to hear what you think! Tell me what’s wrong with me so I can fix it!”

Recently she was spotted looking fab in a bright green D&G coat celebrating her 41st birthday with Ryan & co.
