Model / Actress Cara Delevingne is an ‘Independent Spirit’ for WSJ.

Cara Delevingne: bonafide social media maven, supermodel, actress, and probably one of the coolest chicks in the industry -covers the WSJ Magazine’s June 2015 issue. Looking chic & versatile as ever, she posed for Daniel Jackson | styled by Alastair McKimm. Cara talks difficulties in the modeling world, acting & more in the feature.

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.45.49 AM

Cara is set to star in the upcoming film Paper Towns based on the book by John Green (who also wrote The Fault in Our Stars). Delevingne is one of the biggest models in the world but her passion lies with acting.

She says, “I basically gave up on acting, because trying to get an agent was impossible. ‘Everyone said, “You’re just a model”.

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.35.13 AM

Green said, “Cara Delevingne’s audition blew everyone away (including me!) and she understands Margo profoundly. I am so excited!”

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.45.40 AM

The British babe is the face of huge campaigns from CHANEL, DKNY, Burberry, YSL, to covering VOGUE & much more… the list goes on & on. “I ended up feeling a bit empty. Fashion is about what’s on the outside, and that’s it. There’s no searching, it’s just creating pretty things.”

Adding, “It’s horrible living in a world where I’ll get a call from someone saying, So-and-so says you were partying a lot and you were looking this way and you need to lose weight. It makes me so angry. If you don’t want to hire me, don’t hire me.”

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.45.29 AM

Although, she does credit the benefits of social media because it gives her platform to showcase her kick-a** personality, “I wouldn’t have done as well if I hadn’t had that. Not at all,” she says. “In the ’90s, I wouldn’t have been a supermodel.” Cara’s career is incredible & from modeling, she was able to dip into acting.

Chanel's campaign by Karl Lagerfeld.

Chanel’s campaign by Karl Lagerfeld.

She also talks what she was like as child, “I was a terrifying child. I looked like [horror movie doll] Chucky with bleach-blonde hair. I had night terrors, and I would go around the house turning on all the lights and screaming like people were being murdered.’”

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.47.16 AM

Now, Cara has found a way to balance it all, “I used to be in a constant state of panic and anxiety and have far too many voices in my head. I suddenly realized I’m peaceful inside, and I’ve never had that. Even when I was growing up.”

Priyanka Reveals her Beauty Secrets.

Priyanka Chopra is one of the most successful models out there – originally from India, she’s starred in over 40 films, models for GUESS! & other top brands, covered VOGUE India, and was the former Miss India World. The stunning supermodel sat down with VOGUE to talk about makeup tips, bathing with greek yogurt, advice & more.

Screen Shot 2015-05-03 at 10.07.13 PM

This buxom beauty doesn’t need a lot of makeup to accentuate her looks, but she does have a few ‘go-tos’:  “When I’m tired, I do dark eyes and a nude lip. Shhh! [So] you’re never going to be able to catch the dark circles. And when I’m not tired, I do a bright mouth and nude eyes.”

Less is more, plus her fail-safe beauty regiment: “An eye is great, a lip is great, but when it comes to foundation, less is more. If you take care of your skin, then you just need to worry about concealing the little things. I have a rule: No matter how tired, sleepy, or drunk I am, I have to take my makeup off at night. It’s my routine no matter where I am in the world, no matter how much sleep I do or don’t get. Shiseido has this really great eye makeup remover. I use a foaming face wash from Chanel. [My routine] takes five minutes, but it goes so far.”

Fragrances are an essential touch to any woman, even Z Management founder, Thomas Zeumer, says, “Fragrance is a must for any girl. Whatever makes you feel best, wear it to your next casting. Your scent makes you memorable.”

o-GUESS-570

Priyanka changes her perfume constantly, “some women cut their hair. I change fragrances. I’ll stick with one for a year or two, and then suddenly something will happen in my life where I’ll be like, “I want to be a different person.” Right now I wear Flora by Gucci, but Dolce & Gabbana The One and Ralph Lauren Romance are my all-time favorites.”

Screen Shot 2015-05-03 at 10.06.31 PM

Chopra’s beauty secret from India: “Bathing with Greek yogurt. It’s really hydrating. Make sure you do it at night, because it leaves a little bit of a scent, and don’t do it if you’re spending the night with someone. [Laughs] If you’re in the shower, just rub it into your body like you would soap, then step out of the shower, let it sit for three minutes and wash it off.  [Three times] a week. If you rub it into your scalp, it will even heal dandruff. It’s magic. I believe in natural therapies. I use so much ayurveda in my day-to-day life.”

Screen Shot 2015-05-03 at 10.06.22 PM

On the best advice she’s ever received, “It’s the hardest thing to do, but if you feel happy and confident, you will look beautiful. When you walk out the door and feel like you’re the only girl in the world, people will look at you that way. It’s an amazing, miraculous thing that happens.” Preach girl, preach!

ModelPreneur: Anja Rubik on Why Modeling is a Feminist Job.

Rubik is noted as one of Karl Lagerfeld’s favorite models. Polish beauty & entrepreneur Anja Rubik has covered multiple international VOGUE covers, has been the face of Givenchy, Chloe, Chanel, DKNY, & more, now, the 31 year old is releasing her first fragrance, plus opens up about why modeling is truly, a feminist job. #PREACH.

Screen Shot 2015-04-04 at 3.37.26 PM

Vogue Paris declared Anja as one of the top 30 models of the 2000s. Since May 2010, she’s ranked 3rd on the Top 50 Models Women list (right behind Natasha Poly & Lara Stone). Rubik’s also ranked as one of the highest earning top fashion models in the industry, by models.com’s Top 25 Money Girls list. In 2012, the supermodel was officially ranked as an ICON.

On starting off: “I started modeling many years ago, and since then, I’ve grown as a person and as a woman. When I first started, sports and exercising were not in my routine. But for my job, my body is my instrument of work. I realized I had to do sports. It really impacts the way you feel psychologically and the muscles in the skin have to look right. You cannot reach that through any diet, just exercise.”

On modeling as feministic: “ I consider modeling to be a feminist job. It’s an incredible job; it’s one of the ones where women get paid more than men. If you’re good at your job, you get to be very creative and it opens very many doors, like I did with mymagazine, 25, and perfumes. You get quite a bit of a following and an impact on young women and girls. You can do something very positive with that. Nowadays, it’s not as glamorous as people think. But it can open your mind to many, many things.”

Screen Shot 2015-04-04 at 3.37.59 PM

On girl power: “I’m a big feminist and for female empowerment. I’m very comfortable identifying as one. Nowadays, it is so hard to be a woman. With magazines and TV and social media, it’s all about how to be, how to look, what to say, and it’s so easy to lose yourself. I thought it would be incredible to inspire young women to find their own originality and thoughts, for them to create their own world and go back to their roots.

The inspiration behind her new fragrance: “The name of the fragrance, Original, comes from that and because I wanted to create something of my own. The scent is lily-inspired because I love lilies, and the black-and-white packaging is inspired by Robert Mapplethorpe’s photography. Lilies are a flower that is very minimalist and fragile, but at the same time is a symbol of erotica. As women, we are strong and very sensual and erotic, even at times when we need to be quite powerful. It’s a touch of quiet strength.”

Screen Shot 2015-04-04 at 3.47.19 PM

Her go-to nutrition habits: “I drink a lot of water. And first of all, I don’t believe in any diets. Diets are tortuous; the most important thing in life is balance. The moment we forbid ourselves is when we really crave it. I’m actually a vegetarian, so I don’t eat meat or fish. I eat a lot of vegetables and fruit. I also love any kind of smoothies. There is one that is great for the skin with kale, almond milk, coconut water, and dates. Or sometimes I do pear, banana, coconut oil, and water. That’s really delicious and a nice way to start the day.”

We absolutely love what Anja Rubik has to say about modeling & it’s so true. Want to kick-start your modeling career? Social Supermodels.

It’s no surprise the newest generation of supermodels have taken the social stratosphere to the next level  – from Kendall Jenner (who’s probably the most followed model in existence), to Cara Delevingne & of course, Gigi Hadid. Even VOGUE jumped on board calling them the Instagirls on their coveted September issue which featured Joan Smalls, Karlie Kloss, Cara, Arizona Muse, Edie Campbell, Imaan Hammam, Fei Fei Sun, Vanessa Axente, & Andreea Diaconu.

Screen Shot 2015-03-30 at 8.27.12 PM

AdWeek has dubbed them the ‘Millennial Models’. But, that’s no news to us at Z Management– we’ve seen this push for promotion via social media platforms for a while, especially in the fashion industry. Which is why we launched our APP M3Beauty for professional & aspiring models, giving girls around the globe the tool to create their comp card in seconds. Whether it’s snaping a selfie or selecting a pic, you can promote yourself & share your card on instagram, twitter, tumblr, facebook, & more. That’s some next level promo right there babeZ. Download M3 Beauty in the iTunes / Google Play store.

Before Gigi landed her major modeling contracts with Tom Ford, Victoria’s Secret, Maybelline & more, she took to Instagram to tell her followers of her 1st contract – when she was signed with IMG Models, since then it’s been all ‘OMG Gigi!’. She’s reigned the runway at fashion week & covered top mags — now she’s getting futuristic for AdWeek’s latest issue | Photographed by Alexei Hay.

AdWeek points out, “the millennial models have achieved success both in the realm of high fashion and the commercial world—a rarity since the supermodel era of the ’90s.”

Screen Shot 2015-03-30 at 8.26.46 PM

Gigi recently covered Teen Vogue alongside top model, Binx Walton, their editor in chief Amy Astley says, “There are tons of examples of successful working models who don’t have a big Instagram following and aren’t interested in social media but it’s becoming something more and more that the ad clients are looking for—and all the girls know it. The game is definitely changing.”

Screen Shot 2015-03-30 at 8.27.39 PM

Harper’s Bazaar executive editor Laura Brown says of British beauty Delevingne, “Cara’s a gorgeous girl, but her personality and her social media, that’s what made her, whereas I think Karlie’s just the sort of emblem of good health and girlfriendship. They have their own little currencies on social media, and I think that they’ve become, at least to us, the sort of archetype.” She also talks about SM, “If a model happens to come with a few thousand or a few million followers, that’s amazing for brands. Especially if you’re a brand that wants to target a new, younger demographic, you’d have to consider [hiring] those girls in a second.”

Hadid also stuns for VOGUE Spain’s latest issue (catch it on our Tumblr Blog HERE), but she talks about ‘life after modeling’, she says, “What people want to know is, OK, what’s after modeling? And that’s forcing us to think about those things [even earlier]. It’s not just OK anymore to model until you’re 25 and then stop and be a housewife.”

So, what does she have planned? “I’m an entertainer, and I think that I’ll always be in that business,” she adds, “Who knows? I could always be a fact checker on CSI.” (Hadid currently took a leave of absence from The New School in NYC to focus full time on modeling – but she has plans on returning & getting her degree).

Screen Shot 2015-03-30 at 8.27.20 PM

Well, her fellow supermodel BFFs are already proving their careers are not only expanding from modeling but their not ending anytime soon.

Kloss (the latest face of L’Oreal Paris) has “her own line of cookies with New York bakery Momofuku Milk Bar, taken classes at Harvard Business School, learned how to code & participated in a panel on social media at SXSW. Earlier this year, she announced she was ending her run as a Victoria’s Secret Angel so she could attend New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study.” Ummm talk about GiRLBOSS.. or ModelBOSS in this case.

Cara, who’s Chanel’s main homegirl, has started dipping into acting, she’s set to star in multiple films, including the much anticipated ‘Paper Towns’.

Serena Williams Covers VOGUE (for the 2nd time).

Bad-a** babe Serena Williams stuns for the cover of VOGUE shot by renowned photographer Annie Liebovitz. Saying tennis pro is an understatement as she’s regarded to be the greatest female tennis player in history. For the April 2015 issue of VOGUE Serena & Caroline Wozniacki show off their killer modeling skills. Williams talks her friendship as a tennis champion (& competitor) Caroline Wozniacki.

Screen Shot 2015-03-22 at 9.21.27 AM

Serena is striking in a navy blue Rag & Bone sheath dress, paired with elegant Tate diamond bracelets, minimal makeup by Francelle, and rocking sexy serious curly hair by Holli Smith.

Serena Williams graced VOGUE in 2012 alongside athletes Ryan Lochte & Hope Solo.

VOGUE 2012

VOGUE 2012

On being BFFs with Carolina: “Let’s just put an end to this myth that women players cannot be friends. We can!”

She adds, “It’s hard and lonely at the top. That’s why it’s so fun to have Caroline and my sister, too. You’re a target when you’re number one. Everyone wants to beat you. Everyone talks behind your back, and you get a lot more criticism. God forbid I lose. It’s like ‘Why?’ Well, I am human.”

“She was really there for me when I needed her the most,” says Caroline Wozniacki of Williams.

Vogue pointed out however, traditionally women athletes aren’t always the best of friends: “Steffi Graf, Monica Seles, Maria Sharapova—champions all, but none noted for her cuddliness on, or off, the court. Roger Federer might have dinner with Stan Wawrinka after a match, but among the women, it’s mostly cold shoulders.”

Screen Shot 2015-03-22 at 9.15.18 AM

On fitness: “Nowadays everybody goes to the gym. But when I won my first Grand Slam, I had never been.” Adding, “I hated my arms,” she remembers. “I wanted them to look soft.”

On being a perfectionist: “I am such a perfectionist, if I lose a game. I go crazy.”

Caroline Wozniackiis nearly a decade younger than Serena – and even though she mentions players tend to retire by 30ish she’s still utterly impressed by the longevity of her career. Carolina looks fab in an indigo belted swimsuit by Michael Kors.

Screen Shot 2015-03-22 at 9.21.08 AM And we love this back & forth between Serena & Carolina:

“There are always people who aren’t going to like you,” Williams says. “Look at Jesus; there are people who didn’t like him.”

“Wait, are you comparing yourself to Jesus?” Caroline asks.

“Oh, God, no, I am far from it. As everyone knows. But as a Christian, I do try to be Christlike.”

Serena Williams is a force to be reckoned with and we love watching her career and talents expand from fashion to tennis & beyond. Z Managements Thomas Zeumer recently caught up with her – he said “With the beautiful & talented Serena Williams in #NYCthe other night. Catch you at the #USOpen & see you soon.”

“Killin’ Me Smalls!” Or rather, Smalls is killin’ it. #SupermodelSmalls.

“Jonesin’ for Joans”. That’s basically what the entire modeling/fashion world is saying. Joan Smalls is reigning over the industry – she kickstarted her career by walking exclusively for Riccardo Tisci’s Givenchy S/S10 show. Now, she tops the Forbes “World’s Highest-Paid Models” list.

Beyond starring in campaigns for Marc Jacobs, Balmain, Chanel, Gucci & more, walking for Prada, Lanvin, Dior, featured in the Pirelli calendar (twice), VS Fashion Show, covered VOGUE, ELLE, Bazaar, W … Joan also broke the barriers and became the 1st Latina face of Estée Lauder. This Puerto Rican dream has no plans of slowing down anytime soon.

The Balmain beauty has major discipline & work ethic – no wonder why she’s incredibly successful – part of her routine? No caffeine. Alcohol once a month. Exercise every day. Bed by 10.30pm. Day in the life of a model anyone?

She says, “[That attitude] comes from being in touch with your womanhood and not being afraid of embracing it. Being Latina and growing up in Puerto Rico, it’s just part of our culture. Dancing at a young age, learning how to move your hips, being comfortable with your body, going to the beach in skimpy clothes… It was innate.”

On the ‘Supermodel icons’: “I admire and respect what [the Supermodels] do. When I was growing up, there was Linda, Naomi, Tyra, Heidi. And they worked hard for it. Nowadays, a girl gets two covers and [the industry is] like, ‘Oh, supermodel’. They throw it around too loosely to mean anything. Supermodels are not my role models, because I’m not modeling myself after them. There is no competition. I just want to be the best Joan Smalls.”

On hard work & success: “[My career] was never given to me. What is [down to] luck is genetics – I was born like this, my parents gave me these genes. But I worked my ass off and pushed myself and, even in the darkest moments, when I thought it wasn’t going to happen, I had to remain positive. People only see the glitz and glamor, but behind it comes a lot of sacrifice. So many tears, so much frustration.”

Joans Smalls, Cara Delevingne & Karlie Kloss cover VOGUE’s ’14 September issue | by Mario Testino.

The 26 year old also talks be dubbed an Instagirl on the coveted VOGUE September ’14 issue: “We’re in a different time, where things have evolved. I don’t think it’s about things being instant; something instant just goes fast. I guess it comes from the word Instagram and social media – but it’s a double-edged sword… [Social media] is good for expressing yourself. You get to dispel stereotypes and assumptions; you can allow people into your world. But too much importance is placed on that – there’s more to life than having a lot of likes. It’s not validation of who you are; having more followers doesn’t make you a better model. But that doesn’t always register to the industry. Does [a big following] mean that you’re good to do what’s required?”

Bodysuit & shorts from Givenchy.

Next up on her list? Becoming an actress: “Acting has been one of my biggest dreams since I was really young. I lose myself in films; when actors are able to make you feel that, it’s real talent, and I want to be a part of that. I want to experience it.”Oh and she confirmed she’s already started auditioning!

BFFs Karlie Kloss & Taylor Swift Cover VOGUE.

Screen Shot 2015-02-13 at 12.19.51 PM

OKAY the moment happened we all knew was bound to happen : Musician & muse Taylor Swift plus her Supermodel BFF Karlie Kloss cover VOGUE – TOGETHER. As Lena Dunham calls them ‘Amazon Twins’ we knew we’d see these besties grace a cover soon. The beautiful babes are a lot more bad-a** than we think. Taylor Swift is considered one of the most iconic voices of this generation & Karlie Kloss is beyond runway royalty, not to mention she’s just been accepted to NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study (Christy Turlington wrote her letter of recommendation…).

Now, this dynamic duo graces the pages of VOGUE’s March 2015 issue photographed by Mikael Jansson — the styling & looks are just perfection: bohemian chic at its finest.

Screen Shot 2015-02-13 at 12.19.56 PM

What make Karlie & Taylor the ultimate girls-girls? “We’re both normal people,” says Kloss.“We’re real girls,” says Swift.

They met via supermodel Angel Lily Aldridge back at the 2013 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Taylor has a wall of polaroids at her Tribeca apartment (inclduing a designated guest room just for Kloss) on the pic of the 2 together from their initial intro it says, “BEST FRIENDS FOREVER VS2013”

Screen Shot 2015-02-13 at 12.20.35 PM

Taylor  has pulled herself away from the drama of relationships & boyfriends and instead has created an army of some serious bad-a** chicks #girlpower. Swift says, “to the way people were overreacting to my life. I was really irritated by the whole serial-dater play that people tried to make about me.”

Screen Shot 2015-02-13 at 12.20.30 PM

“I just decided I wasn’t willing to provide them that kind of entertainment anymore. I wasn’t going to go out on dates and have them be allowed to take pictures and say whatever they wanted about our body language. I wasn’t going to sit next to somebody and flirt with them for five minutes, because I know the next day he’ll be rumored to be my boyfriend. I just kind of took the narrative back. It’s unfortunate I had to do that. And it’s unfortunate that now I have this feeling like if I were to open myself up to love, that would be a career weakness.”

Karlie Kloss is one of the top models right now,  “For me, runway is an opportunity to perform.”

She says of her closeness with Swift, “The other night I came over and we were both going someplace from here, and we were both wearing black crop tops and high-waisted skirts. It’s kind of getting weird.”

Screen Shot 2015-02-13 at 12.20.01 PM

Adding, “People had been telling us for years we needed to meet. I remember makeup artists and hair people going, ‘Doesn’t she remind you of Karlie? God, she and Karlie would be best friends. They’re the same. Karlie’s such a good girl. She brings us cookies every time we do a shoot.’ ”

Oh and talk about a good Friday the 13th — catch T.Swift’s music video for ‘STYLE’ from her 1989 album:

We love seeing this rad girl power & friendships – supporting one another in their career & just having a blast. LOVE this shoot. Thoughts?? Xx

Margot Robbie for Vogue Australia.

Margot Robbie made waves in the industry with her stellar (and stunning) performance in Scorsese’s film, The Wolf of Wall Street. The Australian actress kicked-a** in her role & gained some serious cred when she told Leonardo DiCaprio to get ‘out of her light’ while filming. She said “I don’t think anyone has told him to get out of their light in quite some time. He seemed extremely [shocked], but it was kind of funny.”

35487-1_n

Now, the blonde beauty looks like an ethereal [chic] goddess for VOGUE Australia’s March 2015 issue // photographed by Alexi Lubomirski // styled by fashion director Christine Centenera. The 24 year old actress continues her unique reign over the movie industry & more.

She said of her breakout role, “Wolf (The Wolf of Wall Street) was so insane and doing it was such a crazy, amazing experience. But once I’d done it, or while I was doing it even, I didn’t see how I could possibly move things forward from that because that was just so incredible.”

Screen Shot 2015-02-11 at 8.20.17 PM

Robbie is in the upcoming box office hit, ‘Focus’ alongside Will Smith — but you have to hear her audition story while she was in Croatia. She says, “It was 6 in the morning. I’d been swimming, and I got the call saying, ‘Oh, yeah. You need to be doing an audition with Will Smith like tomorrow in New York. So your flight’s booked for tonight.’ And I was like, ‘Tonight? Oh, my God.’ I asked the lady at the hostel I was staying at, ‘Oh, how do I get off this island? I need to go to the mainland.’ And she was like, ‘Oh, there’s only one boat a day, and it leaves in 20 minutes.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, my God’.”

“[I] grabbed all my stuff. Left half of it probably in the hostel … got to the airport. Waited eight hours, and then I went to France, and then I went to New York. And by the time I got to New York, I’d now not slept for, like, well over two days.”

Screen Shot 2015-02-11 at 8.34.02 PM

LOL! Well homegirl still nailed the audition, and she speaks highly of her costar, “Will is the loveliest person. I’d heard he was the nicest guy ever, so funny, so professional, and I thought: ‘He can’t be that great’, and then I got on set with him and I was like: ‘You are that great, I want you to be president of the world because you are amazing!’”

I’m so busy I don’t have time to stop and think about everything that is happening. Z Management has something pretty rad in the works for models & managing their modeling career — GiGi Hadid could use it to balance her schedule!

Z Management popped by the YouTube NYC Headquarters this week for FASHiON Bootcamp — we caught up with TEEN VOGUE’s Social media manager, Drew Elovitz!
