Cara Delevingne: bonafide social media maven, supermodel, actress, and probably one of the coolest chicks in the industry -covers the WSJ Magazine’s June 2015 issue. Looking chic & versatile as ever, she posed for Daniel Jackson | styled by Alastair McKimm. Cara talks difficulties in the modeling world, acting & more in the feature.
Cara is set to star in the upcoming film Paper Towns based on the book by John Green (who also wrote The Fault in Our Stars). Delevingne is one of the biggest models in the world but her passion lies with acting.
She says, “I basically gave up on acting, because trying to get an agent was impossible. ‘Everyone said, “You’re just a model”.
Green said, “Cara Delevingne’s audition blew everyone away (including me!) and she understands Margo profoundly. I am so excited!”
The British babe is the face of huge campaigns from CHANEL, DKNY, Burberry, YSL, to covering VOGUE & much more… the list goes on & on. “I ended up feeling a bit empty. Fashion is about what’s on the outside, and that’s it. There’s no searching, it’s just creating pretty things.”
Adding, “It’s horrible living in a world where I’ll get a call from someone saying, So-and-so says you were partying a lot and you were looking this way and you need to lose weight. It makes me so angry. If you don’t want to hire me, don’t hire me.”
Although, she does credit the benefits of social media because it gives her platform to showcase her kick-a** personality, “I wouldn’t have done as well if I hadn’t had that. Not at all,” she says. “In the ’90s, I wouldn’t have been a supermodel.” Cara’s career is incredible & from modeling, she was able to dip into acting.
She also talks what she was like as child, “I was a terrifying child. I looked like [horror movie doll] Chucky with bleach-blonde hair. I had night terrors, and I would go around the house turning on all the lights and screaming like people were being murdered.’”
Now, Cara has found a way to balance it all, “I used to be in a constant state of panic and anxiety and have far too many voices in my head. I suddenly realized I’m peaceful inside, and I’ve never had that. Even when I was growing up.”
