Model / Actress Cara Delevingne is an ‘Independent Spirit’ for WSJ.

Cara Delevingne: bonafide social media maven, supermodel, actress, and probably one of the coolest chicks in the industry -covers the WSJ Magazine’s June 2015 issue. Looking chic & versatile as ever, she posed for Daniel Jackson | styled by Alastair McKimm. Cara talks difficulties in the modeling world, acting & more in the feature.

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.45.49 AM

Cara is set to star in the upcoming film Paper Towns based on the book by John Green (who also wrote The Fault in Our Stars). Delevingne is one of the biggest models in the world but her passion lies with acting.

She says, “I basically gave up on acting, because trying to get an agent was impossible. ‘Everyone said, “You’re just a model”.

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.35.13 AM

Green said, “Cara Delevingne’s audition blew everyone away (including me!) and she understands Margo profoundly. I am so excited!”

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.45.40 AM

The British babe is the face of huge campaigns from CHANEL, DKNY, Burberry, YSL, to covering VOGUE & much more… the list goes on & on. “I ended up feeling a bit empty. Fashion is about what’s on the outside, and that’s it. There’s no searching, it’s just creating pretty things.”

Adding, “It’s horrible living in a world where I’ll get a call from someone saying, So-and-so says you were partying a lot and you were looking this way and you need to lose weight. It makes me so angry. If you don’t want to hire me, don’t hire me.”

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.45.29 AM

Although, she does credit the benefits of social media because it gives her platform to showcase her kick-a** personality, “I wouldn’t have done as well if I hadn’t had that. Not at all,” she says. “In the ’90s, I wouldn’t have been a supermodel.” Cara’s career is incredible & from modeling, she was able to dip into acting.

Chanel's campaign by Karl Lagerfeld.

She also talks what she was like as child, “I was a terrifying child. I looked like [horror movie doll] Chucky with bleach-blonde hair. I had night terrors, and I would go around the house turning on all the lights and screaming like people were being murdered.’”

Screen Shot 2015-05-24 at 10.47.16 AM

Now, Cara has found a way to balance it all, “I used to be in a constant state of panic and anxiety and have far too many voices in my head. I suddenly realized I’m peaceful inside, and I’ve never had that. Even when I was growing up.”

Bad Blood is full of Bad-Ass BabeZ.

‘Band-Aids don’t fix bullet holes.” It’s here!! After weeks of teasers & posters for Taylor Swift’s epic new video for BAD BLOOD – it finally premiered at the Billboard Awards! And it’s exactly what we expected – bad babes kicking ass. Swifties alter ego Catastrophe battles it out with Selena Gomez’s character Arsyn.

Appearances are made by literally every top female actress, model, dancer, muse, musician & more. Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevingne, Lena Dunham, Karlie Kloss, Hailee Steinfeld, Mariska Hargitay, Ellen Pompeo, Martha Hunt, Ellie Goulding, Serayah, Jessica Alba, Hayley Williams, Zendaya, Lily Aldridge, & Cindy Crawford all take their doppelgangers to the next level.

Supermodel Gigi Hadid told PEOPLE Mag, “I’m obsessed with Beyoncé. It’s a play on Jay Z and using the word ‘slay’ … because slay. Hashtag-slay!”

Interesting pick with Gomez playing the villain in a black bob… rumor has it Taylor wrote this song about her rival artist … Katy Perry (over their issue with back up dancers). The killer video was created by Joseph Kahn who also directed her smash hit clip for Blank Space. Those are just 2 others off her album 1989 which has featured numerous hits from Shake it Off, Welcome to New York, Style, Out of the Woods & more.

The music vid debuted a remix with Kendrick Lamar – some fans were bugged that it wasn’t the original song but we gotta say, we were feeling it. Other people mentioned with such a full cast of characters it would’ve been cool if it were a short film instead – which we kind of agree. But, all in all we’re all about ‘Bad Blood’.

And if you haven’t gotten your fill of bad-a** babes yet — then catch Rihanna SLAY Bitch Better Have My Money on SNL.

Social Supermodels.

It’s no surprise the newest generation of supermodels have taken the social stratosphere to the next level  – from Kendall Jenner (who’s probably the most followed model in existence), to Cara Delevingne & of course, Gigi Hadid. Even VOGUE jumped on board calling them the Instagirls on their coveted September issue which featured Joan Smalls, Karlie Kloss, Cara, Arizona Muse, Edie Campbell, Imaan Hammam, Fei Fei Sun, Vanessa Axente, & Andreea Diaconu.

Screen Shot 2015-03-30 at 8.27.12 PM

AdWeek has dubbed them the ‘Millennial Models’. But, that’s no news to us at Z Management– we’ve seen this push for promotion via social media platforms for a while, especially in the fashion industry. Which is why we launched our APP M3Beauty for professional & aspiring models, giving girls around the globe the tool to create their comp card in seconds. Whether it’s snaping a selfie or selecting a pic, you can promote yourself & share your card on instagram, twitter, tumblr, facebook, & more. That’s some next level promo right there babeZ. Download M3 Beauty in the iTunes / Google Play store.

Before Gigi landed her major modeling contracts with Tom Ford, Victoria’s Secret, Maybelline & more, she took to Instagram to tell her followers of her 1st contract – when she was signed with IMG Models, since then it’s been all ‘OMG Gigi!’. She’s reigned the runway at fashion week & covered top mags — now she’s getting futuristic for AdWeek’s latest issue | Photographed by Alexei Hay.

AdWeek points out, “the millennial models have achieved success both in the realm of high fashion and the commercial world—a rarity since the supermodel era of the ’90s.”

Screen Shot 2015-03-30 at 8.26.46 PM

Gigi recently covered Teen Vogue alongside top model, Binx Walton, their editor in chief Amy Astley says, “There are tons of examples of successful working models who don’t have a big Instagram following and aren’t interested in social media but it’s becoming something more and more that the ad clients are looking for—and all the girls know it. The game is definitely changing.”

Screen Shot 2015-03-30 at 8.27.39 PM

Harper’s Bazaar executive editor Laura Brown says of British beauty Delevingne, “Cara’s a gorgeous girl, but her personality and her social media, that’s what made her, whereas I think Karlie’s just the sort of emblem of good health and girlfriendship. They have their own little currencies on social media, and I think that they’ve become, at least to us, the sort of archetype.” She also talks about SM, “If a model happens to come with a few thousand or a few million followers, that’s amazing for brands. Especially if you’re a brand that wants to target a new, younger demographic, you’d have to consider [hiring] those girls in a second.”

Hadid also stuns for VOGUE Spain’s latest issue (catch it on our Tumblr Blog HERE), but she talks about ‘life after modeling’, she says, “What people want to know is, OK, what’s after modeling? And that’s forcing us to think about those things [even earlier]. It’s not just OK anymore to model until you’re 25 and then stop and be a housewife.”

So, what does she have planned? “I’m an entertainer, and I think that I’ll always be in that business,” she adds, “Who knows? I could always be a fact checker on CSI.” (Hadid currently took a leave of absence from The New School in NYC to focus full time on modeling – but she has plans on returning & getting her degree).

Screen Shot 2015-03-30 at 8.27.20 PM

Well, her fellow supermodel BFFs are already proving their careers are not only expanding from modeling but their not ending anytime soon.

Kloss (the latest face of L’Oreal Paris) has “her own line of cookies with New York bakery Momofuku Milk Bar, taken classes at Harvard Business School, learned how to code & participated in a panel on social media at SXSW. Earlier this year, she announced she was ending her run as a Victoria’s Secret Angel so she could attend New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study.” Ummm talk about GiRLBOSS.. or ModelBOSS in this case.

Cara, who’s Chanel’s main homegirl, has started dipping into acting, she’s set to star in multiple films, including the much anticipated ‘Paper Towns’.

“Killin’ Me Smalls!” Or rather, Smalls is killin’ it. #SupermodelSmalls.

“Jonesin’ for Joans”. That’s basically what the entire modeling/fashion world is saying. Joan Smalls is reigning over the industry – she kickstarted her career by walking exclusively for Riccardo Tisci’s Givenchy S/S10 show. Now, she tops the Forbes “World’s Highest-Paid Models” list.

Beyond starring in campaigns for Marc Jacobs, Balmain, Chanel, Gucci & more, walking for Prada, Lanvin, Dior, featured in the Pirelli calendar (twice), VS Fashion Show, covered VOGUE, ELLE, Bazaar, W … Joan also broke the barriers and became the 1st Latina face of Estée Lauder. This Puerto Rican dream has no plans of slowing down anytime soon.

The Balmain beauty has major discipline & work ethic – no wonder why she’s incredibly successful – part of her routine? No caffeine. Alcohol once a month. Exercise every day. Bed by 10.30pm. Day in the life of a model anyone?

She says, “[That attitude] comes from being in touch with your womanhood and not being afraid of embracing it. Being Latina and growing up in Puerto Rico, it’s just part of our culture. Dancing at a young age, learning how to move your hips, being comfortable with your body, going to the beach in skimpy clothes… It was innate.”

On the ‘Supermodel icons’: “I admire and respect what [the Supermodels] do. When I was growing up, there was Linda, Naomi, Tyra, Heidi. And they worked hard for it. Nowadays, a girl gets two covers and [the industry is] like, ‘Oh, supermodel’. They throw it around too loosely to mean anything. Supermodels are not my role models, because I’m not modeling myself after them. There is no competition. I just want to be the best Joan Smalls.”

On hard work & success: “[My career] was never given to me. What is [down to] luck is genetics – I was born like this, my parents gave me these genes. But I worked my ass off and pushed myself and, even in the darkest moments, when I thought it wasn’t going to happen, I had to remain positive. People only see the glitz and glamor, but behind it comes a lot of sacrifice. So many tears, so much frustration.”

The 26 year old also talks be dubbed an Instagirl on the coveted VOGUE September ’14 issue: “We’re in a different time, where things have evolved. I don’t think it’s about things being instant; something instant just goes fast. I guess it comes from the word Instagram and social media – but it’s a double-edged sword… [Social media] is good for expressing yourself. You get to dispel stereotypes and assumptions; you can allow people into your world. But too much importance is placed on that – there’s more to life than having a lot of likes. It’s not validation of who you are; having more followers doesn’t make you a better model. But that doesn’t always register to the industry. Does [a big following] mean that you’re good to do what’s required?”

Bodysuit & shorts from Givenchy.

Next up on her list? Becoming an actress: “Acting has been one of my biggest dreams since I was really young. I lose myself in films; when actors are able to make you feel that, it’s real talent, and I want to be a part of that. I want to experience it.”Oh and she confirmed she’s already started auditioning!

Model of the Year: GiGi HADiD.

»GiGi Hadid« From ruling the runways of CHANEL to Marc Jacobs to Jean Paul Gaultier & more, gracing the pages of VOGUE, Harper’s Bazaar, V Magazine, Sports Illustrated, ELLE, Schön, CR Fashion Book, starring in ad campaigns for GUESS!, Tom Ford, and now named as the face of Maybelline — homegirl GiGi is beyond just hitting #SupermodelStatus. It’s no wonder this blonde beauty was named Model of the Year at the Daily Front Row Fashion Awards in Los Angeles.

Gigi tweeted, “Thank you @dailyfrontrow for a beautiful night and for the honor! Congratulations to all the other winners, who inspire not only me but the entire fashion world every day and thank you @nicolerichie for being you and for your beautiful intro. I love you!”

She rocked a red Calvin Klein gown on the red carpet, “It’s kind of surreal, because I feel like if you were to ask me who deserves model of the year I could name a hundred people that I think deserve it as well. It’s such an honor, and I love the whole team at Daily Front Row. I feel so lucky that they think that I deserve it.”

And of course, her model mama, Yolanda Foster (also star of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) helped GiGi with the infamous Maybelline contract, she said, “Well my mom kind of was involved with the whole contract. She actually knew a lot of it with my agent [Luiz Mattos] before they told me. Luiz gave me my Christmas present. I opened it in front of the whole agency and it was my contract. My mom was there when I opened my present. And my whole family’s so excited. It was the best Christmas present I’ve ever gotten in my life.”

Girl had some serious supermodel competition from Cara Delevingne, Kate Upton, Kendall Jenner, Joan Smalls … the list goes ON & ON.

She chatted with E! News — on BFF Kendall,  “We’ve only been friends for like a year now, but she’s one of my best friends. She’s so awesome.”

Gigi had modeling in her genes: “I was always kinda told that when I was becoming a model, don’t live with a model because you get competitive…but I don’t really find that I get competitive with my friends, especially with someone like Kendall…we look nothing alike. So someone that’s gonna want a Kendall is not gonna want a Gigi.”

Screen Shot 2015-01-25 at 10.58.51 AM

On her mom’s (Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Yolanda Foster) illness: “You know it’s hard, especially with something like Lyme Disease, not a lot of people know about it, especially doctors so they don’t really know how to help, medical wise. So it’s really hard for me and my siblings to know how we could help, but I guess just being supportive is the best way we can do it.”

Adding, “You can tell how much it means to her when, during a lunch break on a shoot, I’ll FaceTime her and talk to her about how my day’s going. I think just the little things like that is what’s helping her get through it.”

On body image: “”I’ve kinda had an easy time with the whole body image thing, just because from the second I walked into IMG, I was like, ‘This is what I wanna do with my career, but the one thing is that I’m not gonna lose a certain amount of weight. I’m not gonna be extremely skinny.’ I just don’t want to do that,” she explains. “I’ve always been an athlete. I’ve always had a certain body type that I’ve always been happy with and I didn’t wanna let that go for a career.”

Jourdan Dunn: Supermodel // Supermom.

Jourdan Dunn: Is one of the TOP models reigning the fashion industry. She’s the newest face of Maybelline, runway royaly, besties with fellow british babe Cara Delevingne, & mother to adorable son Riley. She talks about the importance of social media giving models ‘voices‘, being a mom & basically being a kick-a** supermodel.

Dunn was discovered at age 15 by an agent from STORM Model Management – she made her catwalk debut at Marc Jacobs’ F/W ’07 show. Since then, her career has skyrocketed – in 2008 she became the first black model to appear in a Prada show in over 10 years, plus, homegirl has walked in over 75 shows in just ONE season, Jourdan has won the British Fashion Award: Model of the Year.

On the POWER of Social Media for Models: “Before, models were only to be seen and not heard, but now [thanks to social media] we have a platform, we have a voice. People want to get to know us, to get to know our interests. I feel that you have to use that to your advantage by becoming a brand.” Adding, “Social media has given me an amazing platform. People these days actually want to know about the girl behind the pictures. They want to know about what you do in your spare time, what your views are on this and that.”

On using her ‘model superpowers’ to raise awareness for Sickle Cell Anemia: “Before Riley, I didn’t enjoy modeling at all. I just did it because I liked the money and wanted to continue my shopping sprees. But my son has put it into perspective for me – I have to do this, I want to, to set him up for life. I took it for granted that I had a great career in front of me, but now I realize my opportunities – the fact that I can provide for my family and be an ambassador for sickle-cell disease and raise awareness.”

On behalf of Dunn, her famous friends; Cara Delevingne, Karlie Kloss, Naomi Campbell & Rihanna all showed support for ‘Cell for Gratitude’.

On discrimination within the fashion industry: “I don’t understand it. It seems crazy to me that this is even an issue that we’re facing in 2014. Yes, when it comes to shows, I’m seeing more ethnic girls on the catwalks. But when it comes to magazine covers, it’s still rare. I guess you’d have to ask the casting directors, modelling agents and magazines why that is still the case. That’s why it really is a dream come true for me to be named as the new face of Maybelline New York – particularly as it is now official beauty sponsor of London Fashion Week.”

On Acting: “Before modeling, I always wanted to be an actress. It’s great the position I’m in that the opportunity is there, I’ve been sent on auditions and I’m getting the feel of it. But I don’t want to get a role just because of who I am. Eventually, I want to take my acting seriously: get a coach, go to drama school. I’d want a role that would push me, to surprise people and make them take me seriously.”

On being the face of Maybelline: “It sounds so cheesy, but it literally has been a dream come true. I remember being asked what I’d like to do in the next five years, and I said, ‘walk for Victoria’s Secret, have a Vogue cover and I’d love a Maybelline contract.’ It’s always been Maybelline.”

On her son Riley: “It’s really hard to be away from him, but he’s beginning to understand. He’s my priority, so if he has a parents evening or it’s his birthday I’m going to pick that over a job. First and foremost, I’m a mum before I’m a model, so I’ll always put him before anything. There are opportunities that I’ve missed out on, but there’s always another one around the corner.”

Jourdan Dunn talks bestie Cara Delevingne: “Whatever Cara’s doing, I’ll support her, and vice versa. It’s a real, true friendship – she’s like my little sister.”

Kendall & Cara: To Walk Chanel or Victoria’s Secret?

Well, well, well …  we totally thought new runway royalty Kendall [Jenner] would be putting on some angel wings (I mean we had a serious poll going on here at the Z Management studios), and we’ve been wondering why we didn’t see Cara Delevingne’s name on the VS Fashion Show 2014 lineup … Turns out there was some MAJOR conflicts in the fashion/modeling world. Both supermodels were rumored to be planning to walk the catwalk that night …but not the one we thought!

The annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2014 will take place on December 2 in London, coincidentally the same day as Chanel’s Metiers D’Art show in Austria.

According to the New York Post, Kendall & Cara opted for ‘CHANEL‘s pre-Fall-extravaganza’ that will be taking place in the stunning & regal, Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron in Salzburg, Austria. As The CUT put it – these mega models chose “the double C’s over angel wings.” Looks like Kendall is following her supermodel besties’ foot steps. The 2 have become BFF’s as of late, from dressing up as Mario and Luigi (Super Mario Bros game) for Halloween, to Cara joining the Kardashian Klan for Jenner’s birthday bash.

We do love catching the VS Fashion Show, especially since the OG Angels: Alessandra Ambrosio & Adriana Lima will be rocking TWO fantasy bras! And, have you checked out the roster of babes getting ready to strut the runway in some kick-a** lingerie/wings??

The Angels: Behati Prinsloo, Candice Swanepoel, Douzten Kroes, Karlie Kloss, Lily Aldridge, Lindsay Ellingson. Other models include; Joan Smalls,Barbara Fialho, Sara Sampaio, Grace Mahary, Josephine Skriver, Jasmine Tookes, Jourdan Dunn, Bregje Heinen, Elsa Hosk, Barbara Fialho, Izabel Goulart, Isabeli Fontana, Lily Donaldson, Constance Jablonski, Kasia Struss, and MORE.

Then again, we always love us some Karl Lagerfeld. Well – what would YOU choose: Chanel or Victoria’s Secret??

*Luckily the VS Fashion Show doesn’t air until December 9th – so WE can catch both! Regardless, the 2 runway shows are incredible fashion/modeling jobs and it must’ve been a tough decision. Xx

Beyonce X TopShop = Fashion Dream Come True.

Seriously – Monday is turning out to be a great day seeing as we’ve heard some amazing fashion news: Beyonce is set to launch a fitness wear collection with TopShop. Yes, you read that right: Queen Bey X TopShop.

Screen Shot 2014-10-27 at 11.21.06 AM

The entertainer/singer/actress/model/fashion icon/mother… the list goes on… has formed a 50/50 joint venture company, Parkwood Topshop Athletic Ltd., with the brand. Plus, we only have to wait to Fall 2015 to get a our stylish hands on the upcoming activewear line!

Beyonce herself, said in a statement, “I could not think of a better partner as I continue to grow the Parkwood business. I have always loved Topshop for its fashion credentials and forward thinking. Working with its development team to create and produce a technical and fashion-led collection is exciting and I’m looking forward to participating in all aspects of this partnership.”

TopShop owner, Sir Philip Green told WWD,  “This not a collaboration. This is about building a brand and building a business — a separate, proper business, with separate overhead and a separate office.”

Green continued, “We have been looking at this category as fashion-inspired fitness develops, and know that this is right in our customers’ heartland. Creating a partnership with Beyoncé, one of the most hard-working and talented people in the world, who spends many hours of her life dancing, rehearsing and training is a unique opportunity to develop this category. Being partners with Beyoncé and her team, who have the greatest creative energy and enthusiasm, is inspiring for all of the team at Topshop.”

Adding, “We have much to achieve in just under a year, but we are all up for the challenge, and look forward to delivering athletic streetwear in an inventive and exciting way.” According to VOGUE, “TopShop confirmed that Green intends to hire a separate team to run the Beyoncé activewear label, including a creative director and designers.”

This is quite a phenomenal partnership, for both parties actually – I mean Beyonce is already larger than life and has been a big fan of the British brand, she’s rocked a number of chic pieces that sold out in seconds, additionally TopShop is a huge, fashionable & affordable brand that’s had TOP faces/models behind it from Cara Delevingne to Kate Moss. We can’t wait for this collab to hit stores, can you?? Xx

Nobody else from another generation, perhaps Kate’s, would even consider doing that.”
